Ahh...life's struggles. They seem so big and hurt so much. The bible assures us that in the end it is meaningless. I used to think Ecclesiastes was so depressing but really it is enlightening and brings hope. I truly believe that everything that makes us happy now, everyday burdens of this life, the schooling we go through to get that dream job that buys the new car and perfect house. The only purpose in all that is to merely survive in this life. But what about afterwards? That stuff will not be there at the end of the road. We will be in Awe of God and have is presence alone which is sufficient and more than we will ever want/need. The only thing I hope to take with me is you. All the people that I love dearly and the ones God has put in my path. That is what I work for here on this earth. To service God, worship him in all I do and to share the love of Christ. If we are living for now, it is meaningless, If we are living for God, it is sheer bliss. So I count my success, not by the minivan I am driving :) but how many rides I am giving to those who are in need. I count my success, not by what degree I have (or don't have yet) but how many lives I touch while striving for that degree and while using that degree. I count my success, not by the money I make but by being obedient to God and who I bless with that money. I count my success, not by the busyness of life but how much of that time I am serving God. I count my success, not on how many friends I have but how many friends are holding me accountable, how many friends I am influencing for Chirst, how many friends I am praying for, and how many friends are challenging me to go deeper. I count my success, not by how long/often I spend with God but how much I am learning, growing from and going deeper with Him. I leave you with a quote.... "We know what the world's idea of success looks like, but what makes a Christian successful in life? Obedience, pure and simple. We cannot measure success by the end result, no matter how it may externally seem, because if we are obeying God - we are indeed successful." -Professor Steve Whitten from San Diego Christian College Thanks Joy for sharing your words of Wisdom. |
